Kathmandu: Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank have announced a multi-phase relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction programme worth approximately NPR 150 million for communities affected by the devastating floods in Rasuwa.
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the floods that struck Rasuwa on Bhadra 10, Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank have pledged to work together to provide immediate relief, safe shelter, rehabilitation and long-term recovery support to affected communities.
The approximately NPR 150 million package will be implemented in multiple phases, addressing the immediate needs of affected families while supporting their transition from emergency relief to safe housing, rehabilitation and long-term community resilience.
Immediate relief and humanitarian support
Under the first phase, Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank have been providing food, essential medicines and health supplies to affected families and will continue the assistance.
The relief package includes ready-to-eat meals, drinking water, biscuits, clothing, tarpaulins, personal hygiene products and other essential supplies.
Relief operations began in the affected areas on Bhadra 11, with employees of both Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank directly mobilised on the ground to support relief efforts.
In coordination with local authorities, two organised relief camps have been established in Nuwakot and Rasuwa, where affected communities are being provided with daily meals.
In partnership with Dhulikhel Hospital, health camps will also be operated in affected areas to provide primary healthcare services and support disease prevention and control.
The relief camps will also provide safe spaces for children, along with access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities.
500 temporary housing units
As part of the rehabilitation phase, Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank will work with the government and local authorities to construct 500 temporary housing units for families whose homes have been completely destroyed or rendered uninhabitable by the floods.
The temporary shelters are intended to provide affected families with safe, organised and dignified accommodation until permanent reconstruction is completed.
Long-term public health and resilience
The initiative also includes a long-term commitment to strengthening public health preparedness.
Chaudhary Foundation plans to collaborate with Dhulikhel Hospital to establish a centre dedicated to the prevention and control of communicable diseases, aimed at improving preparedness and reducing health risks in disaster-affected communities.
‘Our responsibility must go beyond emergency relief’
Nirvana Chaudhary, Chairman of Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank, said the immediate priority was to protect lives and ensure that affected families have access to food, shelter, healthcare and dignity.
“Our responsibility must not be limited to emergency relief. Through this partnership between Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank, we are committed to the entire journey—from rescue and relief to temporary shelter, permanent rehabilitation and strengthened public health preparedness.”
Officials from Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank said they would work closely with the Government of Nepal, local administrations, relevant agencies, security forces, healthcare professionals, community organisations and volunteers to ensure an effective and coordinated response.
The programme aims to ensure that relief and assistance reach the most severely affected and vulnerable families in a transparent, efficient and well-coordinated manner.
The initiative is being implemented as part of the organisations’ continued commitment to stand with Nepali communities during times of national crisis and support affected families in building a safer, healthier and more disaster-resilient future.
Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank have also expressed appreciation to the Government of Nepal for its prompt and active response to the rescue and immediate relief efforts for flood-affected communities.
